If you’ve been reading along during this 21 Day Sugar Detox journey, you might have noticed that I consume a decent amount of cheese and put heavy cream in my coffee and my tea. I eat dairy.
Dairy’s a funny topic. There are two very different schools of thought on whether it’s good for you or not. Here’s my take on it:
If you don’t tolerate dairy well, and it gives you a stomach ache (or worse) then it is not good for you. If you notice other adverse reactions, such as acne or other skin problems, then it is also not good for you. And if you think it’s just plain weird to drink the milk of a different species, feel free to skip it. I get it.
I’ve eliminated it from my diet for weeks at a time, on several occasions to see how I feel without it. The truth? Not much different. And when I reintroduced it, all went well.
Now, I’m not going to go all crazy and tell you that you should drink milk for calcium. I mean we all know that’s totally bogus, and there are way better sources of calcium than milk. It’s insane to me that doctors still tell kids to drink more milk for calcium, Including the asthmatic ones. You don’t need a PHD in anything to know that milk + asthma = bad news. For more about that, I highly recommend this book. Dairy is definitely bad for some people.
But I’m not one of those people, and I love cheese. LOVE IT. And since my life often involves cooking like a maniac and forgetting to eat, anything in the fridge that is ready to eat is my friend.
I’m glad I got that out. I didn’t feel like I could post another food picture that included cheese without this explanation / justification. Also, I had cheese and crackers for dinner.
Today was good, except for the fact it it started off with 8 things happening at once. I hadn’t yet drank my coffee, and I felt like my energy was needed in a million places. Luckily, Simon made breakfast, so that was one less thing I had to worry about.
I’d love to show you a picture of my lunch, but I didn’t eat any. I’m sure I snacked at some point. I was busy. Simon had leftover chili.
I almost never eat enough when I’m catering an event. I’m busy getting ready for it all day and don’t feel hungry, and then I’m working at the event and don’t eat. Tonight was no different, but I did make lots of food for other people. Here’s some of it:

Only three days left of the detox. I will likely be home late tomorrow night, so might not be able to post. but I will at the very least post an article from Balanced Bites about what to do after the detox is over. And Saturday- a very special treat! I talked Simon into writing day 20. Should be interesting!
