Indian Spiced Grilled Lamb Chops

I can’t remember the first year that my mom made grilled lamb chops for Passover, but I definitely can’t remember anything else ever being in the center of the table. As I mentioned in my post about brisket, there would be certain mutiny if she tried to swap out these chops for anything else. While grilling lamb chops for a crowd might seem daunting, it’s not bad if you’re prepared. If you have everything else staying warm in the oven, you can throw these on the grill at the last minute, and they’ll be done in under 10 minutes. The best thing about these is that...

Spicy Lamb Curry

I got some lamb stew meat from Fallon Hills at the Farmers Market on Sunday and have been ignoring it ever since. I kept picturing it becoming something similar to beef stew, only with lamb, and it just wasn’t exciting to me. And then it hit me: Lamb Curry! Why did it take me all week to think of that? Clearly the holidays have my brain somewhere else than in the kitchen. I’m not sure where, exactly, because I sure as hell haven’t been shopping. I like to pretend the holidays aren’t happening and then freak out at the last minute. It’s how I do. But tonight, we...

Moroccan Braised Leg of Lamb

Posted by on Dec 4, 2012 in 21DSD, Dinner, Lamb, primal | 1 comment

Ever since I made boneless leg of lamb like this, I haven’t looked back. It’s that good. I make some variations, of course (like not using extra virgin olive oil to sauté, for example), but it’s a keeper. I’m pretty sure that every leg of lamb I’ve had in the past 3 years has gotten the above treatment. Last week, there were two good reasons for not making it Mario’s way; 1. I was already way overloaded with work, and this recipe involves a bit of prep, and 2. Oranges & red wine are not on the ideal list for the 21 Day Sugar Detox. This lamb took so...

Red Wine Braised Lamb Shanks

Chances are, unless you’re in San Francisco or some other wacky weather land, braising is absolutely out of the question for you. It’s heatwave city out there, from what I hear, and I am not jealous. I have moments where I miss the occasional balmy summer night, don’t get me wrong. But anyone who knows me will attest to the fact that I do not do well in the heat. I think Hunter S. Thomson said it best, while in Vegas: “I’ve never been able to properly explain myself in this climate” Or at least Johhny Depp playing Hunter S. said that. We’re still...

Shepherd’s Pie

I’m just going to go ahead and say it: This is not a seasonally appropriate post. Shepherd’s pie is one of those cold, snowy, winters night meals, or for those of us in San Francisco, a cold rainy one. In my defense, the cooking and photo shooting of this recipe happened months ago. I’ve been busy. Mostly with my Kickstarter campaign, and the preparations for it. It’s a pretty big project, and I’ve neglected blogging because of it. My intention is to put a new recipe up once a week, and I will try and get back to that schedule. Now, onto the current matter:...

Pomegranate Glazed Lamb Riblets

I used to be a now and then farmers market attendee; when it was nice out, when we happened to be up early on a Sunday (pft), when it just sounded like a good idea. Oh how things have changed. In December, the market was closed for 2 weeks in a row, due to it falling on Christmas and New Years. Those two weeks were just short of panik inducing. I can rely on my tiny but incredible neighborhood store for an amazing selection of organic produce, and even organic chicken. But meat? Not so much. While there are stores in San Francisco that carry grass fed meats, the selection is pretty dismal....
